ADD Mom Raising ADHD Kids

ADD Mom ADHD Kids

As a freelance writer, I am always looking for opportunities to write. Also, as a writer, I am always looking for subject matter.

Having always been advised to write about what you know, I decided to write about Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I have raised two ADHD kids, and more importantly, I know how it feels, as I have ADD myself.

I once saw a commercial about ADHD. It was the best example I have ever come across to really explain to non-ADDers how it feels to have ADD or ADHD. In the commercial, a person was sitting in a family room watching TV. The TV channels kept flipping over and over again. That is what it is like in the brain of someone with ADD. The channels are always being flipped, sometime faster than others, but always flipping.

Raising two sons with ADHD has been very difficult. But, because I also have ADD, I feel I am better equipped to help them adjust. This gives me an advantage over other parents of ADHD children who themselves do not suffer from this.

Because I am new to this Hub writing, I will keep this short, but please keep checking back. I will be writing more of this and other subjects in the near future.

In the meantime, if you are a teacher or parent of a child with ADD or ADHD, please try to have patience. Remember, no matter how hard it is on you, it is much harder on them.

I am also a mom of a an 8 year old boy with ADHD. I have found it very helpful to keep a good sense of humor while dealing with my son! If you take a step away and can laugh occasionally it helps in alot of ways, for the children and the parents!
